Zimbabwean arrested over attempted murder in South Africa

A 32-year-old Zimbabwean national has been arrested following an alleged attempted murder at a traditional gathering near Meqheleng township in Ficksburg over the weekend.
The suspect was also found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, according to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Police said the incident occurred during a cultural feast, where an argument reportedly escalated into a violent attack on a 58-year-old local man from Meqheleng, Ficksburg. The victim sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Authorities responded to the scene and apprehended the suspect during the subsequent investigation. An unlicensed firearm and live ammunition were allegedly discovered in his possession, resulting in additional charges.
“The suspect was arrested on charges of attempted murder, as well as the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition,” SAPS said in a statement.
The accused is expected to appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate's Court on Monday, 23 February 2026.
Police investigations are continuing.
