Tragedy in Gwanda: 3 dead after cabin fire

Three people lost their lives in Gwanda, Matebeleland South Province, after a cabin they were sleeping in caught fire under unclear circumstances.
The incident occurred on March 19, 2026, at around 10 pm at Lone Mine 50 Compound, Makwe, according to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi.
"The ZRP confirms a fire incident in which three people died after a cabin they were sleeping in caught fire," Commissioner Nyathi said. "The victims were burnt beyond recognition and their bodies were taken to Gwanda Provincial Hospital mortuary for post-mortem."
Authorities have launched investigations to determine the cause of the fire. No further details on the victims have been released as inquiries continue.
