A police officer based at Gweru Central Police Station and his teenage son died after they were electrocuted at their home in Mkoba 7, Gweru, on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Constable Isaac Madhaka and his 15-year-old son, Takudzwa Madhaka.

National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyati confirmed the tragic incident.

According to preliminary information, Takudzwa was removing clothes from a washing line that was connected to a TelOne wooden pole when he was electrocuted.

The teenager reportedly screamed for help, prompting his father to rush to his rescue. In the process, Constable Madhaka was also electrocuted.

Both father and son died at the scene.

Commissioner Nyati described the incident as a tragic loss.

"It is an unfortunate situation, and we feel sorry for one of our own," he said.

He added that initial investigations had not established any illegal electricity connection at the Madhaka residence.

"There is no evidence of an illegal electricity connection at the homestead. The connection was instead at a neighbour's house. The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company is yet to establish what transpired," said Nyati.

Authorities are awaiting findings from the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company to determine the exact cause of the fatal electrocution.

The incident has left the Mkoba community in shock and mourning, with residents expressing sadness over the loss of both a father and son in such devastating circumstances.

Police investigations are continuing.
