A total of 3,624 Zimbabweans had returned home from South Africa and been reintegrated into their communities by Friday last week, with authorities indicating that more returnees are expected as processing continues.
The update follows ongoing cooperation between Zimbabwean and South African authorities to facilitate the orderly return of Zimbabwean nationals.
Officials said the two governments had agreed that the screening and profiling of returnees would now be conducted at the Beitbridge Border Post, a move expected to speed up the repatriation process while enhancing the security and management of returnees.
Authorities also announced that the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has been instructed to waive all taxes on household goods brought into the country by returning Zimbabweans.
Government said transport arrangements have also been put in place, with buses available to ferry returnees to their respective home areas once immigration and administrative procedures have been completed.
Officials said the measures are aimed at easing the reintegration process and reducing the burden on returning citizens.
The government also reiterated President Emmerson Mnangagwa's message that all Zimbabweans living abroad have the right to return home.
"His Excellency the President, Dr ED Mnangagwa, continues to impress on us to broadcast the message that all Zimbabweans in South Africa or any other country have a right of return, and will be welcome and reintegrated upon arrival," the statement said.
Authorities said additional returnees are expected in the coming weeks as South African officials continue processing those who have opted to return to Zimbabwe.
