A 32‑year‑old Bindura man has been jailed for an effective 12 months after admitting to a brutal domestic violence attack in which he mutilated his wife’s genitalia with a razor blade during an argument over alleged infidelity.

The incident occurred on 21 June 2026 at a farm in Bindura, where the man assaulted his 42‑year‑old wife in what prosecutors described as a severe and deliberate act of physical abuse.

According to court proceedings, the offender allegedly pretended he wanted to be intimate with the complainant before suddenly grabbing her private parts and cutting off part of her genitalia using a razor blade. The victim suffered serious injuries and bled profusely.

Court records show that after the attack, the man gave the woman water to wash herself while she was still bleeding heavily.

The matter was heard at the Bindura Magistrates’ Court, where the accused pleaded guilty to physical abuse under the Domestic Violence Act.

He was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment, with six months suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour, leaving him to serve an effective 12‑month jail term.

Authorities said the conviction highlights ongoing concerns over gender‑based violence in communities and reiterated the justice system’s commitment to protecting victims.

“The justice system will continue to protect victims of gender‑based violence and ensure that perpetrators are held fully accountable,” part of the official statement read.

Gender rights advocates say domestic violence continues to leave lasting physical and psychological trauma on victims, urging communities to report abuse early and support survivors through available channels such as Zimbabwe GBV support services.
