Members of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Media, Information, Publicity, Communication and Technology this Thursday toured ZBC's headquarters at Pockets Hill and hailed the national broadcaster for acquiring the high definition Outside Broadcasting (OB) van.
The Chairman of the portfolio committee, Mr Settlement Chikwinya said they are pleased that ZBC now has a state-of-the-art OB van that will enhance quality as part of the digitalisation process.
"We are all pleased that ZBC is moving in the right direction, but what is needed now is for Transmedia to make sure that all provinces get enough coverage as quality has already been enhanced by the coming in of the van," Mr Chikwinya said.
The members were taken through the OB van by the ZBC Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Happison Muchechetere and ZBC Head Engineering and ICT, Mr Shadreck Mupeni at Pockets Hill studios.
Speaking after the tour, portfolio committee member, Bright Matonga said it is encouraging to note that the coming in of the OB van is expected to improve the operations of the national broadcaster in outside broadcasting, news gathering and transmission from the country's provinces.
"We are happy because this is a step forward and we now need to support ZBC as a national broadcaster," he said.
The digital satellite news gathering van has nine digital cameras on high definition.
The high definition OB van was donated by the Chinese government to ZBC.
The committee was then taken on a tour of the television and radio studios.
Later, the portfolio committee met with ZBC News and Current Affairs General Manager Tazzen Mandizvidza and were briefed on some of the developments that are taking place at the national broadcaster.
SADC has set a deadline for its member states to move from analogue to digital broadcasting by the end of this year while the International Communications Union expects the whole world to be broadcasting on digital by 2015.
