A NKULUMANE based woman, Forget Mkandla, had a day never to forget after her husband "boxed" the lights out of her for reportedly serving him few pieces of meat.
It is reported that on 5 April, Nobert Msimanga, came home from a beer drink and found his wife watching television.
Without saying anything to Mkandla, he allegedly started hitting her.
The woman ran out of the house and returned after her husband had fallen asleep.
From there on, the two reportedly failed to get along.
Tensions took a nasty turn on 7 April.
It is said that on the day, Msimanga got home at about 8pm from a beer binge.
He ordered his wife to serve him food.
She did likewise.
What was put on the table did not go down well with Msimanga.
He reportedly started accusing his wife of deliberately serving him few pieces of meat.
In her defence, the woman said the meat she served him was all she could afford.
However, Msimanga would have none of it and accused Mkandla of disrespecting him.
What followed next was a tongue lashing with the man threatening to beat up his wife.
Mkandla stood her ground and also launched her own salvo.
The debacle degenerated into a physical confrontation with Msimanga manhandling his wife.
He went on to give Mkandla a few slaps before deciding to turn her into a punching bag.
It is said that Msimanga landed a number of punches on the woman's face, flooring her in the process.
Mkandla managed to pick herself up and made a report to the police.
Msimanga was arrested and hauled before Bulawayo provincial magistrate Mr Willard Maphios Moyo.
The man was convicted and sentenced to three months in prison.
The sentence was, however, wholly suspended on condition that Msimanga does not within a period of five years commit a crime of similar nature.
