The Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP), led by Mfulongatshi Mpofu, has postponed its Strategic Conference to 29–30 August 2026, giving party structures across Matabeleland additional time to mobilise for what officials describe as a crucial gathering.
The announcement, issued by the Office of the Secretary General, said the postponement was intended to ensure stronger participation from provincial and district representatives, youth and women’s wings, elders and party departments. The conference had initially been scheduled for an earlier date this year.
When delegates meet in August, discussions will focus on MRP’s political and organisational direction, the economic situation in Matabeleland and what the party describes as ongoing marginalisation of the region.
“This important strategic gathering will bring together party leadership… to deliberate on key political, organisational, economic and national issues affecting the people of Mthwakazi,” the statement read.
The party linked the conference to its broader goals of “liberation, restoration of dignity and protection of the rights of the people of Mthwakazi”. It also raised concerns over unemployment, poor service delivery and political persecution, which it said continued to affect communities.
MRP described itself as a “revolutionary and constitutional movement” standing with citizens in their demand for justice, equality, self‑determination and freedom.
With the new dates confirmed, the party urged all provinces and charters to begin contributing resources and encouraged members to remain “disciplined, united, vigilant and focused”.
Logistical details, including venue and accreditation, will be announced through official channels.
The statement ended with the party’s rallying cry: For Peace And Justice In Our Life Time. Sisonke Sibambene Singu Mthwakazi Sesikulungisa — “Together, united as Mthwakazi, we are fixing it.”
The August conference is expected to be MRP’s largest internal meeting this year and will shape its political direction heading into 2027.
