Road accident claims five family members

FIVE relatives died, three on the spot including the driver while five others were injured, one seriously when a vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and overturned.
The accident happened at the 68km peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road on Wednesday at about 6pm.
He identified the dead as Kache Vhikai, Augustine Chikumbu,Tenford Tagwirei all of Manyumbudzo Village under Chief Nemauzhe in Chivi, Lovemore Gono of Gwarinda Village in Chivi and Christopher Tagwirei of Tagwirei Village (ages not given).
He said the bodies were taken to Masvingo General Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem while the injured were rushed to Ngundu Clinic.
"The bodies are at Masvingo General Hospital awaiting post-mortem. The injured were rushed to Ngundu Clinic where four of them were treated and discharged while the one who was seriously injured was rushed to Masvingo General Hospital where he is still admitted. Their condition is stable while the one at the hospital remains stable but critical," he said.
Insp Zhanero said on the fateful day, a Toyota Noah driven by the late Tagwirei was travelling along Beitbridge-Masvingo Road.
The vehicle had 10 passengers on board when the tragedy struck, all from one family.
"On the day in question Tagwirei was travelling with 10 passengers on board, all from one family, towards Masvingo City. Upon reaching the 68km peg along the same road, he lost control of the vehicle," said Insp Zhanero.
He said the vehicle swerved off the road and overturned.
"After losing control, the vehicle veered off the road, overturned and rolled several times before landing on its roof killing three passengers in the process. One passenger died at Ngundu Clinic before admission while the other one passed on upon admission to Masvingo General Hospital," said Insp Zhanero.
