Prostitute bashed in row over missing cellphone, cash

A GWANDA prostitute was given a thorough beating by a client and had her dreadlocks plucked off in a row over two missing cellphones and some cash, a court heard.
Siduduzile Mlotshwa, 43, of Jahunda suburb, believed to be a commercial sex worker, sustained severe injuries on her face and head after her client, Edson Mnetwa, 22, assaulted her.
Mnetwa pleaded guilty to assault when he appeared before Gwanda magistrate Arafat Kozanai.
"I met this woman at Limelight Bar while I was drinking beer. We then agreed to go to my house in Jahunda to have sex after indicating that I will give her $10 and she agreed," he said.
"We then boarded a taxi together and then later I realised that my two cellphones and my money were missing. I then suspected her and a misunderstanding arose. She started beating me and I retaliated and beat her up with open hands and fists. Your Worship, we were both drunk."
Mnetwa blamed Mlotshwa and her friends whom he said were also "ladies of the night" for having a tendency of stealing from their clients.
He proposed to settle Mlotshwa's medical expenses but she refused, saying the court should punish him.
Prosecutor Edward Ndlovu narrated how the two met on June 7 around 4AM but ended up fighting.
"The accused and the complainant hired a taxi intending to go to Jahunda. Upon reaching Phumulani Hotel, the taxi driver demanded his money and they failed to pay resulting in the driver dropping them near the hotel," said Ndlovu.
He said a misunderstanding arose over missing cellphones and some money resulting in Mnetwa "slapping Mlotshwa with open hands several times on the face and body before plucking off her dreadlocks."
Ndlovu said Mlotshwa was rescued by an unknown person who intervened and stopped the fight.
"The accused went away and left the complainant who reported the matter to the police, leading to his arrest," he said.
Kozanai remanded Mlotshwa in custody to today for sentencing.
