Zimra warehouse in Beitbridge destroyed by fire

Thousands of dollars worth of property is feared to have been destroyed in Beitbridge after a Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) storehouse reportedly went up in smoke at the country's busiest port of entry.
The warehouse had goods belonging to travellers who would have failed to pay duty, sources said.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and efforts to get a comment from the ZIMRA area manager identified as Mr Zifudzi were unsuccessful as his mobile phone was out of reach.
Witnesses said efforts by Beitbridge Town Council and Noczim fire brigades to put out the fire were fruitless as there were reportedly no fire hydrants around the area.
The border town relies on Gwanda and Musina fire brigade from the South African side in the event of a fire outbreak. Officials feared that substantial losses might be incurred as a result of the fire.
