A BULILIMA man allegedly offered to escort a woman to her boyfriend's homestead only to allegedly rape her in a bushy area and rob her of cash amounting to R538, a magistrate heard yesterday.
Tymon Moyo, 23, from Gotshombo Village, met the 22-year-old woman from a neighbouring village asking for directions to a certain homestead.
Moyo offered to accompany her to the homestead in question but later allegedly attacked the woman in a bushy area.
Upon his arrest Moyo told the police that the complainant was his girlfriend and that she had agreed to have sex with him.
Moyo appeared before Plumtree magistrate Gideon Ruvetsa facing rape charges.
He was remanded in custody to May 18.
Prosecuting, Clemence Shawarira said the complainant arrived at Gotshombo Business Centre on May 1 around 7PM.
He said she approached Handukani Sibanda seeking directions to her boyfriend's house.
"Moyo overhead the conversation and volunteered to accompany the complainant to her boyfriend's homestead as he claimed to know where he stayed. He left his bicycle with Sibanda.
"While on the way, Moyo pulled the complainant into a bushy area and then raped her once and took R538 from her. He fled the scene leaving the complainant in the bush," said Shawarira.
He said the complainant proceeded to a nearby homestead where she narrated what had happened.
The matter was reported to the police resulting in Moyo's arrest.
Appearing before the same court was a 26-year-old man from Plumtree who allegedly ambushed a 45-year-old woman from Mangwe, stabbed her with a knife on her breast and stole her cell phone valued at $60.
