Mopane Foundation International All Family-Inclusive BBQ Fundraising Event
07 Jun 2015 at 18:09hrs | Views
Mopane (tree) Foundation International is holding its initial all family inclusive fundraising event in Sheffield on the 13 June 2015. The recently founded foundation is made up of Zimbabwean graduates who are passionate about children education and the region. The Mopane Foundation which started as a one person's vision to assist the less privileged orphans in the area has been communicated and now is being shared by more than a dozen of Zimbabweans from all over Matebeleland. Currently Foundation has 7 students on our books at Zamanyoni Primary School who have fees being paid for direct to school and receiving basic school uniforms and stationary. Due to the demand from the area and across the region as well as the whole country we aim to reach more orphaned kids. We have taken upon ourselves to fundraise to try and meet the demand for scholarships.
The Foundation's initial scholarship recipients are in Matobo district (Matebeleland South, Zimbabwe). Like any other region in Zimbabwe, there are many orphaned children who are dropping out of school due to the lake of funding. There are also a combination of factors resulting in having so many orphaned children for the last few decades such as the 1980s genocide that left so many without parents, HIV and AIDS; and also the current economic situation that has seen a sharp rise in mortality rates.
The fund-raising aims at assisting orphaned school-going children with learning resources, school fees and other school essentials to help pupils achieve an expected level of literacy leading to possible employment. There are a few guest speakers scheduled to speak about community development issues and activism that the attendees can get involved in.
The foundation has just been recently formed and still awaiting charity status has a few more events planned for this year and has a scheduled Black-Tie official launch event on 17 October 2015 at The Hilton Hotel Sheffield.
