FOUR brothers from Gokwe have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting their cousin who had refused to accompany them to consult a witchhunter, popularly known as a tsikamutanda.
Cuthbert Makomo, 40, Jona, 29, George, 27, and Gezai, 24, of Marongero Village under Chief Nemangwe in Gokwe appeared before Gokwe magistrate Sithabile Zungula facing one count of assault and kidnapping.
The four brothers pleaded not guilty and were remanded in custody to today for trial.
The prosecutor, Maxwell Tapfira, told the court that on December 7 this year at around midnight, the four brothers approached their cousin, Cabinet, at his homestead.
They found him in bed.
"Cuthbert and Jona ordered Cabinet to wake up and accompany them to a witchhunter known as Mapiye Mukuru who had camped in their village. They wanted to know the cause of misfortune in their family. Cabinet refused and remained in his bedroom hut," he said.
The court heard that Cuthbert, Jona, George and Gezai were incensed by Cabinet's refusal to consult the witchhunter.
The court heard that the four brothers force-marched Cabinet to the witchhunter's base at Village Marongero in Nemangwe where they detained him for four days.
