Obert Gutu must be daydreaming
18 Jun 2015 at 13:37hrs | Views
The recent nonsensical and false utterances by MDC-T spokesperson, Obert Gutu, that there is infighting in the ruling party, ZANU-PF, must not be tolerated at all, but must be considered as a joke.
Honestly, Gutu must be day dreaming. The man claims that MDC-T will win elections in 2018 if ZANU-PF continues with its alleged infighting. What Gutu fails to understand is that ZANU-PF is a mature party that knows quite well how to resolve its issues.
Gutu's allegations are baseless. When people make allegations, they should come out with evidence to prove them. It is easy for Gutu to tell a story, but it becomes difficult for him to come up with facts to back up his story.
A word of advice to this mouthpiece of MDC-T is that it is good to remain silent and be treated as a fool than waffling. This opposition party fails to appreciate that ZANU-PF is the people's choice party. Since its inception, ZANU-PF has been liked by the electorate. People appreciate the revolutionary party's policies. This has been evidenced by the resounding victory that ZANU-PF recently scored in the by-elections that were held on 10 June 2015.
It is pleasing that ZANU- PF is re-asserting its dominance in most areas that were once alleged to be MDC-T strongholds.
It is not true for MDC-T to say ZANU-PF only wins elections through intimidation, electoral rigging and violence. Tsvangirai decided to boycott the by-elections but it then surprises to hear that his party has been complaining about the outcome of election results.
Gutu should be ashamed of his words. It is therefore, saddening that MDC-T attempts to hide behind ZANU-PF. Contrary to Gutu's utterances, claiming that there is internal strife in the revolutionary party, true infighting exits in that opposition party. MDC-T has been splitting several times due to Tsvangirai's dictatorial leadership and ideological differences inherent in its leadership. MDC-T needs to put its house in order before making unnecessary statements about other political parties.
Why do political parties, especially opposition parties, campaign using false allegations against other parties. The truth is that MDC-T has a serious political weakness, leading to failure to exploit opportunities. During the Inclusive Government, that party's leader, Morgan Tsvangirai as premier, failed to come up with a single policy that could have been used to develop the economy. Instead of coming up with policies that can assist in nation building, the MDC-T is more interested in seeing the current economic situation declining.
From the look of things MDC-T will soon cease to be the main opposition party in Zimbabwe. This party used to enjoy the credit of being the strongest opposition party in Zimbabwe; however, all is now history. People have lost hope and confidence in the MDC-T. Obert Gutu, who lacks qualities of a public relations officer, should make extra efforts in fixing the image of his party which is already at the brink of collapsing.
The big question to Mr Gutu is that, how then will MDC-T win the 2018 elections considering the rate at which its members are defecting to the ruling party.
I just don't know if Gutu's master, Tsvangirai will allow his party to participate in the 2018 elections. It is known that whenever the country will be holding elections, Tsvangirai finds excuses for his party not to participate.
Mr Morgan might decide not to contest the 2018 elections due to financial dire straits as his traditional western sponsors are very angry with him for failing them on the regime change agenda. It is now Tsvangirai's policy of boycotting elections. Since the beginning of MDC, there is only one policy that Tsvangirai enacted and effectively implemented, which is of election boycott.
In 2005, The MDC split due to Tsvangirai's refusal to respect a party resolution to participate in senatorial elections. The then MDC-T secretary general, Welshman Ncube and his cronies fell out of Tsvangirai's authoritarian leadership and formed their faction.
Also, Tsvangirai boycotted the recent by-elections of June 10, 2015.
Tsvangirai has been making noise of electoral reforms, but what shocks is that this embattled leader, together with his followers, contributed in the making of the new Constitution. It is known that MDC-T contributed immensely to all the provisions of the new Constitution.
It is an embarrassment that there are a lot of ignorant people in MDC-T. I thought Gutu, as a lawyer, is supposed to advice Tsvangirai that his argument on electoral reforms should be send to the Constitutional Court. It's indeed a shame that this opposition party fails to understand the law.
It is also depressing that the MDC-T leadership in Bulawayo has recently postulated new rules where its party members are made to sign ‘death contracts' which they say is a way of strengthening their entity. What is more pathetic is that (according to that party senior Organizing official, Abednico Bhebhe) the contract will deprive the party members the right to take their party to court for any dispute that may rise in that party.
But is that democracy?
MDC-T should accept that it has failed. The party is making all possible efforts to remain politically relevant without success.
