Bulawayo football got a boost last weekend when Quelaton Football Club was promoted into the country's elite league the Castle Lager Premiership after beating Hwange's ZPC to reach an unassaillable lead of 68 points. Though struggling in the closing stages of the game nearly throwing away a 3-0 lead to end on a 3-2 win, it was sweet victory for the Tawanda Ruzive bankrolled out fit who will bring the number of teams in Bulawayo to four should Zimbabwe Saints avoid the dreaded chop.
Quelaton's closest rivals Railstars huffed and puffed and could only master a 2-2 draw against impressive Hwange Juniors to all but throw in the towel. It was a bitter pill to swallow for the former premiership side as they lost and drew willy nilly when their gaffer Mandla Mpofu was on duty with the National Under 20s. To add salt to injury. they were whacked for six (6) in the first leg by Champions Quelaton and they never really woke up from that thumping to be honest enough. When Quelaton wobbled, they too wobbled to all but hand in the championship to their bitter rivals.
Thulani "Thuts" Sibanda probably the youngest coach to lead a side to premiership was all smiles after the ZPC game and commended the boys for a job well done but bemoaned lack of concerntration in the closing stages of the game which nearly gave their maltitudes of fans palpitations and heart attacks.
In Division two, Tsholotsho Pirates confirmed a Division One status for Rural Tsholotsho with a hard fought victory over the young Ajax Hotspurs side notching a 2-1 victory at the dearth as their enterprising Mutare boy Ovidy turned and shot inside the box to deny Ajax Hotspurs a share of the spoils against the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Two Champions. Sizane Fruts and Vegetales F.C will join Tsholotsho in the Southern Region Division one league
Old Nic Mine football club led by Nesbert "Gwegwerere" Sibanda have all but sealed a place in the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Division 2 as they have led Division 3 league from the onset of the season. Portland Cement, Magwegwe Pirates, Plumtree,Toronto and FMH Academy are all fighting for the other promotion slot.
