PLUMTREE – A 37-year-old man from Figtree has been remanded in custody after allegedly assaulting his friend during a dispute over music at a local bar.
Buhle Matobolo appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware, who ordered his detention until November 13. Prosecutor Sheila Nyathi told the court that Matobolo was drinking beer with Melusi Ngwenya (24) when an argument broke out over control of a speaker.
The disagreement escalated, and Matobolo allegedly struck Ngwenya with a wooden log, causing injuries that required hospital treatment. Ngwenya was later discharged.
The case has sparked concern over rising incidents of alcohol-fueled violence in public spaces.
