The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of the five people who died in a fatal road traffic accident involving a commuter omnibus and a haulage truck along the Chivhu-Nyazura Road last Friday.
In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that eight other passengers were seriously injured in the collision.
"The Zimbabwe Republic Police releases the names of the victims who died in a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 73km peg along the Chivhu-Nyazura Road on October 24," said Commissioner Nyathi.
He said the accident occurred when a haulage truck carrying a load of cement collided with a Toyota Hiace commuter omnibus carrying 12 passengers. The truck reportedly hit the kombi from behind, resulting in the deaths of five people, including the driver.
The deceased have been identified as Takunda McGregor Ndoro, the driver of the kombi, Juliet Chikasha (58), Taurai Manyewu (51) — both of Harare — Juliet Makunike (25) of Mutare, and Muzonda Marumbei (94) of Buhera.
The eight injured passengers were taken to Murambinda Hospital for treatment.
Commissioner Nyathi expressed condolences to the bereaved families and urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads, emphasizing the need to adhere to road safety regulations to prevent further loss of life.
