Controversial South African radio and television personality, DJ Sbu has been caught out in yet another white lie.
Sunday World revealed that the R8 Million gold estate house which he gloatingly flaunted as his own on the SABC flagship programme Top Billing last year, is in fact not his property.
We have also learnt that the double storey villa, nestled at the Eagles Canyon Golf Estate in Honeydew, west of Joburg, belongs to Roz Everitt, the co-owner of international property group Chas Everitt.
The award-winning DJ, who drives around in among other sports cars as Porsche, a Range Rover Vogue and Aston Martin, was a tenant in the stylish house and pays a whopping R45,000 rent every single month.
The news crew discovered the news when we investigated why the ritzy crib was put on sale last week. The posh house, which set tongues wagging when it was flighted on the popular TV programme, was also advertised in one of the daily newspapers' property sections with a price tag of a staggering R7.9 million.
Chas Everitt's estate agent Zelda Reyneke confirmed that the modern mansion, which comprises three bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, three garages, a pool and a koi pond as well as a white high-gloss and walnut kitchen, belongs to their company and that Sbu was their tenant.
"The house belongs to my partner Roz Everitt. I'm aware that it was on Top Billing but that's people's private life and has nothing to do with me," she said.
A Joburg woman, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said she learnt that the house was not owned by the Mofaya architect when she went to view the property last week.
"I realised when I got there that the house was familiar to me. When I toured the house I saw DJ Sbu's Sama statuettes, clothes and shoes and that is when I realised that is is the one that was shown on Top Billing. Zelda then told me upon my enquiries that DJ Sbu and his ex-lover Disebo Makatsa wanted to buy the property but the deal was cancelled due to other complications. She said the tenants (DJ Sbu and his ex-girlfriend) are supposed to move out by the end of June," said the woman.
A source close to the couple said DJ Sbu publicly announced that the house was his after he and his fiancée signed a deal with Chas Everitt to rent the house with an option to buy it.
"I think he just concluded that the house was his after they eventually agreed with the company to buy the house. I heard they even put down a deposit, that is why he went public and said the house was his because he thought it was a forgone conclusion that he was going to own it but little did he know that he was jumping the gun and now he has egg on his face," said the source.
Makatsa's relative, who also didn't want to be named for fear of reprisal, said DJ Sbu vacated the house about two weeks ago and was now living at an unknown place in Joburg.
"The plan was that he should go and live in a property they claim they jointly own in Kyalami but he didn't go there. Disebo discovered when the gardeners and domestic workers, who are working in that house, phoned her when they needed things. That is when she realised that he was not living there," said the relative.
Makatsa allegedly DUMPED Sbu after complaining that he failed to return home on several occasions after his gigs. When reached for comment, she refused to entertain the media.
DJ Sbu has been in the news for the wrong reasons in recent months, including being bust for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol at Randfontein on the West Rand at the beginning of this month.
The former YFM DJ was also fired from Metro FM in March after pulling an ambush marketing stunt during the Metro FM awards in February where he punted his energy drink without approval.
As if that was not enough, the Tembisa-born DJ was outed by internationally renowned Forbes magazine for the digital fabrication of its front cover to appear as if he was featured in its Africa edition.
Last month it was reported that Sbu misled the public by claiming that his energy drink was approved by the SA Bureau of Standards (SABS) while that was not the case.
DJ Sbu could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press.
