Residents of Vusimuzi in Tembisa next to Mooifontein Cemetery live in fear as suspected dead people pelt stones to their shacks.

The residents claim the dead have been hurling stones at their shacks!

Daily Sun reported that residents said strange things have been happening in their squatter camp since December.

They claim stones and even bricks are hurled at them, but they can't see who is throwing the stones.

Several residents' shack windows have been shattered by flying stones but they don't know where they come from.

They suspect an evil spirit is behind their misery and have now appealed to churches to come and pray for them.

Community leader Maserishane Debeila said his shack's windows have been damaged by the mysterious flying stones.

"The attacks happen mostly during the day, between 10am and 7pm," he said.

"We hear stones getting thrown on top of our shacks, but when we go outside to see who's throwing them, there's nobody there. We're scared that these stones are going to hurt people soon."

He said because they fear being hit, most residents hide in their shacks.

"It's scary. We suspect demons are doing this," said Mmabatho Modipa.

She said just last Friday a rock fell on top of her shack. "I didn't remove it. I left it there because I was alone and no one knows what could happen once I touch it."

Daily Sun spoke to more than 20 residents who all claimed to have been victims of the flying stones.

Last Friday community leaders even went to the local radio station to appeal for help.

Thapelo Latakgomo said they were appealing for prayers. "These things are done by demons. The only thing that can conquer them is a prayer," he said.

Tembisa police spokesman Captain Manyadza Ralidzivha said they also once witnessed the stones hitting several shacks but when they investigated, they couldn't find anyone who had thrown them.

Sangoma Khosi Nkosi said what is terrorising residents is an mpundulu and residents may not be able to see it because it changes into different things.

But she said there is muthi to chase it away.
