BULAWAYO - The Residents and Churches Peace Network (RCPN) has called for peace and unity following the death of businessman Wicknell Chivayo, his wife Lucy "Lulu" Muteke and others in a helicopter crash.

The organisation's national coordinator, Max Mkandla, said while the deaths had shocked many Zimbabweans, it was important for the nation to heal and move forward peacefully.

"All has happened and life must go on peacefully. However, what worries us is what caused this, and authorities must probe the matter," said Mkandla.

He called on relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Mkandla also spoke of Chivayo's philanthropic activities, saying the businessman had touched the lives of many people across the country through acts of giving.

"Yes, some may say whatever they want, but according to me, he taught people love and this must be emulated," he said.

He added that beneficiaries of Chivayo's generosity could be found in virtually every province of Zimbabwe.

According to Mkandla, the focus now should be on promoting peace, unity and mutual respect following the tragedy.

"What is needed now is peace and love for life to move forward," he said.

Chivayo and his wife were laid to rest at Glen Forest Memorial Park in Harare, with mourners from different sectors of society attending the burial.

The call for peace comes amid mixed reactions on social media and in public discourse following the high-profile businessman's death, with civic groups urging Zimbabweans to remain united and respectful during the mourning period.
