13 people died in a road accident in the early hours of this morning when a Masvingo-bound commuter omnibus collided with a haulage truck along the Bulawayo-Gwanda highway.
The accident occurred near the National University of Science and Technology.
The driver of the truck told ZBC News that he lost control of the vehicle after hitting a pot-hole resulting in the commuter omnibus hitting the truck's trailer.
The injured were taken to United Bulawayo Hospital where one of them died on arrival.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Republic Police Spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the accident.
She said preliminary investigations show that the motor vehicle involved in the accident was not registered and the owner is still yet to be identified.
Charamba added that those who lost their lives in the accident were friends, relatives and members of the same family who were going for a funeral.
She called on the public to travel during the day so as to reduce the risk of accidents.
The names of the deceased are yet to be revealed after their next of kin have been notified.
