Shortage of burial space at Mtapa cemetery has forced Gweru City Council to close it, Town Clerk, Elizabeth Gwatipedza has said.
Only available space at the  12-hectare cemetery is for advance bookings.
To date more than 16 000 people have been buried at Mtapa cemetery.
According to NewsDay, Gwatipedza said readily available burial space is now at Matinunura cemetery in Mkoba 9, Senga and Mutasa cemeteries.
"Mtapa cemetery is now closed for burial except for those who have reserved their graves.
"You are therefore advised to use Mkoba, Senga and the Central Mutasa cemeteries for burials."
Most local authorities are battling burial shortage space resulting in closure of cemeteries.
Cremation is said to be an alternative but residents are putting up a resistance citing cultural reasons.
