The Roman Catholic run Regina Mundi Girls' High is setting itself as a school of academic excellence. It is a dream school for every parent.
The school made a point when it notched 98.52% pass rate in the 'O' Level November 2016 Zimsec results becoming the best in the Midlands Province where 330 secondary schools sat for the 2016 'O' Level examinations.
Of the 135 candidates who sat for the 'O' Level exams, only two students failed. Speaking at Regina Mundi annual general meeting held at the school on Saturday, the head, Sr Concilia Jangara said the school was poised to get 100% pass rate was it not because of the two.
She said the two students probably failed because they did not attend school for the whole of second term and they also did not come for vacation lessons.
She told more than 200 parents at the meeting that the results continue to improve in quality year after year.
"I am happy to inform you that we had very good 'O' level results at 98.52% pass rate. This means that of the 135 candidates who sat for the exams, there are only two who failed. We attribute their failure to the fact that they did not attend lessons for the whole of the second term and they also did not turn up for vacation lessons," said Sr Jangara.
Analysing the results to the parents, she said 133 students passed 5 or more subjects with a C or better and 63 got more than 5 As' each. The school had 14 students with 5As, 14 students with 6As, 13 students with 7As, nine students with 8As, 10 students with 9As and three with 10As.
Sr Jangara said the A level pass rate dropped slightly but the quality improved drastically.
"Our A level pass rate dropped slightly but we are still happy with the results because in terms of quality we improved tremendously with 19 students realising 15 points and above," she said.
The school has also seen an improvement in infrastructure over the past two years.
The school constructed a state of the art three-storey admin block, a pavilion, bought a mince meat and sausage producing machine and there are several other projects that were implemented.
