A man from Bulawayo's Northend suburb was fatally stabbed at his house by two suspects who went on to dump his body along Airport road in Queens park suburb to appear as if he had been killed in a road accident.
The spine-chilling incident, which left residents of Queenspark dumbfounded, occurred in the early hours of yesterday.
The two suspects, Mbonisi Mnkandla (24) and Malvin Gowa (24), allegedly stabbed Mr Michael Jongi seven times all over the body and thereafter took his body and put it in his car. They then drove the car and dumped his body along the City-Airport Road in Queenspark West.
The body was found naked at about 7am by passers by.
Mnkandla was living in the same house with Mr Jongi in Northend and allegedly connived with Gowa, from the same suburb, to kill him with the intention of selling the car.
When this reporter visited the scene of murder yesterday morning, shocked residents were helplessly watching the deceased's body in a pool of blood. The lifeless body was by the side of the car, which had been pushed into a bridge to appear as if Mr Jongi died in an accident.
Some witnesses said they heard gunshots at night and could be heard whispering to each other that the man had not died in an accident.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) national spokesperson, Detective Inspector Augustine Zimbili, confirmed the suspected gruesome murder.
Det Insp Zimbili said the two alleged killers have since been arrested. "We have arrested two men in connection with the murder case," said Det Insp Zimbili.
He said preliminary investigations indicated that the two stabbed the deceased three times on the back of the head, three times on his back and once on the throat.
He said Mr Jongi's body was found naked.
"We established that the deceased was killed in his bedroom with a kitchen knife which we have since recovered. His mattress, which was soaked in blood, was turned upside down.
"We also found at the scene a brown and gold duvet and a white bed sheet which were soaked in blood," he said.
Det Insp Zimbili said some clothes and a cellphone belonging to the deceased were recovered from the two assailants.
He said police were continuing with investigations as the two were also suspected to have raped a girl, whose whereabouts are yet to be established.
"We recovered a Samsung cellphone belonging to the deceased while Mnkandla was wearing his (Jongi's) clothes. We are also investigating another case where the two, on the same night, are suspected to have raped a girl before they released her and took her to TM Hyper so she could go home.
"We are still looking into the issue and I would like to appeal to anyone with information or the raped girl to come forward, so that we can continue with investigations," said Det Insp Zimbili.
