Sunday News Editor Paul Mambo dies

SUNDAY News editor Paul Mambo has died. He was 46. Mambo, whose journalism career spans 19 years, died at Mater Dei Hospital on Saturday evening at about 7 pm after succumbing to meningitis.
Family spokesperson Mr Matamela Mambo described his late brother as a role model to the Mambo family.
"We are saddened by the death of my brother who was a role model to all of us in the family. He was dependable, helpful in many aspects of life. He was also a unifier.
"He was loved by many and would sacrifice for people even outside the family. His great leadership qualities will be greatly missed in the family and in the community," said Mr Mambo.
Mambo was born in Gwanda and went to Mpande Primary School in Beitbridge for his primary education.
He proceeded to Manama High School in Gwanda where he did his secondary level before he went to Harare Polytechnic to study Mass Communication.
Mambo was a teacher at Nuli Secondary School in Beitbrigde from 1988 to 1989.
He joined Sunday News as a reporter in 1991 and in 1993 was promoted to senior reporter.
In 1996, Mambo was promoted to news editor and in 2001 he moved to Chronicle as assistant editor.
He was promoted again to senior assistant editor in 2003 and later became Chronicle deputy editor.
Mambo was appointed Chronicle acting editor in 2005 before being moved to Mutare as editor of Manica Post. In 2007 he was appointed Sunday News editor, a position he held until the time of his death.
Mambo was also the chairman of Zimbabwe Association of Editors and was former board member of Mutare Community Advisory Board.
Mourners are gathered at House Number 464 Mahatshula.
Mambo is survived by wife Egith and four children.
Burial arrangement are yet to be announced.
