Police in Bulawayo have upped investigations to catch criminals responsible for the gruesome murders of two people whose bodies were found dumped in a drain in Bulawayo's Nkulumane Suburb, on Thursday last week.

The bodies had reached an advanced stage of decomposition and had to be identified by their clothes.

The acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Abedinico Ncube yesterday said police were working relentlessly to bring the murderers to book.

"Investigations are still in progress but we have had nothing tangible as yet. We are not resting until those responsible for the callous killing are caught and dealt with according to the law," he said.

Ncube said the two bodies have been identified and the woman has been buried.

"The woman Nokukhanya Ncube, 23, from Nkulumane was identified by her family and has since been buried. The man Mthabisi Dube from Esigodini was identified by his friends but his next of kin has not been identified," he said.

The ruthless double homicide shocked the city due to the heartless manner it was carried out.

Ncube was found naked, save for a pair of panties, while Dube was wearing a pair of jeans and a purple sweater.

Dube's throat was slit from ear to ear, his hands and legs were tied with a rope and he had deep cuts on the neck.

Ncube's hands were also bound up and the right side of her abdomen was ripped open.

Police called on members of the public who may have information that might lead to the arrest of the murderers to come forward.
