Econet Wireless Zimbabwe is facing growing criticism from subscribers over its Smart4U bundle, with customers complaining that the package is being depleted far more quickly than expected despite being marketed as a 30-day service.
The concerns have triggered widespread debate among users, many of whom claim they are exhausting their allocations well before the end of the validity period and are struggling to understand how their data is being consumed.
Subscribers have also raised concerns about internet performance, alleging that connection speeds have deteriorated, making routine online activities such as streaming videos, browsing websites and downloading files increasingly frustrating.
Some customers say the combination of rapid data depletion and slower speeds has left them questioning the value proposition of the Smart4U package.
The complaints have gained traction on social media platforms, where users have called on Econet to provide greater transparency regarding data usage calculations, bundle management and network performance.
Others have urged the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) to investigate the matter and determine whether subscribers are receiving the service levels they were promised.
Several customers have warned that they may consider switching to alternative mobile network operators if their concerns are not addressed.
Consumer advocates say transparency is critical in maintaining trust between telecommunications providers and subscribers, particularly at a time when data services have become essential for communication, education, business and entertainment.
The growing dissatisfaction highlights increasing expectations among consumers for clear information on data consumption patterns, network speeds and service quality.
As criticism mounts, subscribers are demanding detailed explanations from Econet regarding the performance of the Smart4U bundle and assurances that customers are receiving fair value for the packages they purchase.
Econet had not publicly responded to the latest complaints at the time of publication.
