Bulawayo High Court Judge Justice Nokuthula Moyo on Thursday 11 June 2015 granted an application for review filed by ZLHR lawyers Lizwe Jamela and Nosimilo Chanayiwa on behalf of their client Beauty Moyo, a 68 year-old widow, whose in laws sought to dispossess her of her property.

Beauty was hauled before Chief Mutevaidze of Mberengwa in Midlands province by one of her brothers in law Felix Moyo who alleged that she had disregarded some traditional customs by performing a tombstone unveiling ceremony for her late husband.

Chief Mutevaidze proceeded to order Beauty to pay to the brother in law nine goats and one beast. The Chief's order was subsequently confirmed by the Mberengwa Resident Magistrate resulting in the issuance of warrants of execution against Beauty's property in Bulawayo where she is based.

Justice Moyo on Thursday 11 June 2015 granted an order declaring that the Chief Mutevaidze had no jurisdiction to hear the matter as Beauty is a Christian whose life is not dictated by traditional customs.

The order also nullifies the warrants and attachment of Beauty's property at the hands of Bulawayo Messenger of Court.
