UK based midwife launches Mpilo Maternity Project
26 Aug 2015 at 17:18hrs | Views
Samukeliso 'Sam' Tennyson Sibanda is a midwife, based in Northampton UK, who started the Mpilo Maternity Project as her very own personal project. Recently named the LIFE project, she and her esteemed colleague Linda Thebe have built up a following due to the work done in the past 4-5years.
With just over 500 followers on the facebook page "MPILO MATERNITY", the duo have kept all supporters informed on their progresses and requirements to keep the work going. Both Samukeliso and Linda (who are Mpilo babies) have worked tirelessly to bring awareness to the needs of Mpilo Maternity and have recently have been joined by their church leaders Pastors JD Modede (Nigeria) on this plight. In November 2014 they curtained the antenatal ward and in Feb 2015 they painted the postnatal ward  with full support from the Bulawayo community and the UK church family at Liberty house in Northampton led by Pastors JD & Blessed Modede.
Despite the minimum resources, the team continues to reachout to the Bulawayo community and Zimbabwe diaspora community to volunteer and donate resources. On this coming bankholiday they are hosting an event set to fundraise for the pending work planned for September 2016 (flier attached).
When asked Linda commented that "this Government hospital serves a diverse people within the Matebele community, and some of tomorrows future is birthed in Mpilo maternity unit, just as we were many moons ago. What we desire as diasporans is to continue to support this good work , including help the staff in Maternity raise the standard and quality of care to their patients. And to do so, they are reaching out to the Zimbabwe Diaspora community to join alms and work with them or perhaps join them on 29th August at the MPILO MATERNITY UK Fundraising Ball.
