FAILURE to stomach the pain of seeing her long time husband being snatched by a teenager saw a Zimunya woman taking the law into her own hands and assaulted her.

Manica Post reported that Rebecca Waiziwa (37) of Matika Village, Chief Zimunya denied the charges of assaulting Tafadzwa Mazereka (18) of the same village when she appeared in court last week.

She was remanded out of custody on her cognizant. She will be back in court on April 7 for trial. Presiding over the matter was Langton Mukwengi, while  Fletcher Karombe prosecuted. It is alleged that on February 23, Waiziwa visited Mazereka at her homestead around 6am.

Karombe said: "Waiziwa heavily knocked at Mazereka's house. Mazereka peeped through the window and asked why Waiziwa was acting in that way. Waiziwa told her to come out of the house fast as he was wasting time by hiding in her house. "When Mazereka opened the door, Waiziwa immediately pulled her breasts several times and later assaulted her with open hands on her cheek.

‘Waiziwa told Mazereka that she was doing all that as a warning for her to stay away from her husband. She then left the place." In her defence, Waiziwa told the court that she was only warning the teenager to stay away from her man.

"Your Worship, I only went to Mazereka's place to warn her that I was aware of her affair with my husband. Visiting her was a way of showing her that I was not approving their affair as I will not tolerate a polygamous relationship. She is lying because she wants me to be jailed so that she will take over my husband who is already spending much of his time with her."

Mukwengi adjourned the matter to April 7.
