Government's plan to offer thousands of civil servants residential stands as bonuses have angered war veterans who say the public workers are not special and superior than them.

The broke government offered restless civil servants residential stands instead of cash.

The move hit a snag, at least for now.

However, the gesture has not gone down well with war veterans who claim Government is treating civil servants as a special breed.

Zanu PF legislator and war veteran Joseph Chinotimba said the allocation of stands is "destroying our country".

"If you look at Civil Servants, they are 315 000 to 515 000 in numbers.

"It was said that if there is no money, we will give them stands – where do we get all these stands to give them?" he asked parliament on Tuesday.

He added "During war time, there was a man called Julius Misihairambwi, he would always say when we were hungry that we would have enough when we get home at Monomotapa Hotel.

"That is what he used to say to encourage us.  Right now, how many war veterans have been to Monomotapa Hotel?  There is none.  The same thing is being said by Hon. Chinamasa, Hon. Mupfumira and all those who have to do with the Civil Servants.  Where are you going to get all those stands? That is destroying our country" parliamentary Hansard quoted him saying as seen by Bulawayo24.com.

Chinotimba said the stands offer was "painful" suggesting that he regrets going to war.

"Hon. Chinamasa said that he wanted to give Civil Servants stands – that is very painful to hear that.

" Now, it seems the Civil Servants are now seen as more superior than the War Veterans.  War Veterans are living in shacks.

"We used to stay in shacks during war time and up to now, even war veterans who have been allocated land, it is being taken away.

"They do not consider War Veterans. That is why I stood up that this year all the war veterans who have children who completed form four, up to now, they do not have their results because Minister Dokora is saying that if a person is transferring to another school, they should be given a transfer letter which shows that they are clear of debt.

"So, none of our children proceeded to 'A' level because the budget that was allocated to the war veterans was like a spite on them that why did you go for war".
