THE 2012 National Art Merit Awards nominees risk being boycotted by nominated artists over the blackout on whether they will get cash prizes if they win awards as organizes hint that they have not secured tangible sponsorships.
The awards ceremony is set for this Friday (February 18) at the 7 Arts Theatre in Harare.
More than 80 names from various artistic categories have been announced.
National Arts Council of Zimbabwe director Elvas Mari on Monday said "Winners are definitely going to get trophies and certificates which
is confirmation they have won a Nama,".
Mari said if there were going to be any prize money or other prizes they would be disclosed later.
This has dampened the spirits of several artists who are contemplating to boycotting the event.
"It's puzzling that the important thing in the awards that is money is not being talked bout. Organizers are aversive on the issue on money and we might boycott the event' said a nominee from Bulawayo.
The nominee said it does not make sense to travel to and fro Harare, book own accommodation and food only to get a certificate and trophy.
