The Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks will be commissioned on Wednesday this week.

Currently, the barracks are called KG6.

As a result, the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) is informing members of the public that Borrowdale road will be closed between intersections at Borrowdale road and Pauling road turn-off and Borrowdale road and Churchill Avenue.

In a statement, the ZDF said access to Borrowdale road through Sandringham Drive and Falmouth will also be closed to allow safe conduct of an official military parade at the KG6 north gate.

During the ceremony, a 21 gun salute will be fired.

The parade will take place on Wednesday starting from 6am to 11am.

Inconveniences caused to the public during the road closure period are sincerely regretted.

Meanwhile, the ZDF spokesperson, Colonel Overson Mugwisi said the event is an official launch of the renaming exercise of barracks in line with ongoing ZDF efforts of restoring the country's liberation legacy.

Colonel Mugwisi also said most of the changes will embrace names of Zimbabwe's liberation war luminaries of the second Chimurenga.

He added that all the barracks countrywide will be formally renamed on Wednesday this week.
