The resignation of Bulawayo Deputy mayor at the behest of MDC President Nelson Chamisa has been received with mixed feelings by residents of Bulawayo. Some have welcomed the development calling it a progressive move to remove a foreign mayor while some have called Chamisa a budding dictator.

CITE Boss Zenzele said, "Hold on to your celebrations. Chamisa is not a character to be trusted. He has a plan up his sleeve which will see Kambarami being voted back as duputy Mayor."

Another resident Dumisani Ndlovu celebrated, "Very good news, more foreign councillors must follow. Vuka Mthwakazi Vuka."

Victoria Falls based journalist Leslie Phiri called the development a very stupid move. "This is astupid move, very stupid, fact is Councillor Mlandu is unwanted by the Councillors and if that is Chamisa s plan then he is in for a high jump. none will win.  A female Councillor will take it this time around.... but if his plan succeeds, he would have set a bad precedence."

Vocal MDC supporter Farai Mtelilo had no kind words for his Leader, "Leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa l don't know where to start from, l should say I'm heavily disappointed in the decision you made today, why should you seem to be going against what we are fighting or? What is the purpose of going for an election if we can easily override the decision out of a democratic process? If you so wish to see Councilor Mlandu up there, take him and appoint him your deputy then. Councillors voted for Tinashe Kambarambi as their deputy mayor, you have no right whatsoever to interfere with democratic processes.

"Now you have forced the gentleman to step down so that it seems as if he did so willingly. l once warmed against playing into the hands of people bent on destroying you. The Bulawayo case was purely a tribal one, and the Khupe loss should have shown you that tribalists have never been popular. Mlandu contested and lost period, he was supposed to wait for another election after 5 years. Why treat him as a special case. Tabitha Khumalo what's happening in Bulawayo? What sort of nonsense is this?

"Let me tell you one thing. You have mercilessly dealt a heavy blow on my heart. I'm disappointed. Wait until tomorrow, your preferred Mlandu will once again lose to the same Tinashe Kambarami. This l can assure you. l rest my case."

Lawyer Zibusiso Dube warned against celebration of a dictatorship,  "While our people ululate this development, I worry that it s a demonstration that votes aren t taken serious. And where votes are meaningless, there is no political accountability. We lose sight of long term structural issues in our quest to satisfy immediate concerns."

Bulawayo councilors are expected to vote for a new deputy mayor soon.
