A new documentary commemorating a century of the Matabeleland Zambezi Water project will be  launched in December , giving the public a unique insight into the  water woes of Matebeleland generally and Bulawayo in particular and also looking at the political economy of climate change.

Titled 'Matabeleland water pipeline or pipe dream- a century later' the documentary will be screened at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair VIP Lounge on 06 December from 1700hrs.

Ntando Dumani the Director of the  Matabeleland based organisation Secure Future Africa which compiled the documentary explained to Bulaswayo24 the concept behind the documentary.

"This project seeks to initiate conversations and inspire a critical mass of activists and amplify their voices for the implementation of the National Matebeleland Zambezi Water Project as an infrastructure that can strengthen climate change adaptation." Dumani said.

"We are looking forward to a great launch and I will like to assure all our invitees that its all systems go. We are expecting to be joined by water activists, the Bulawayo City Council and other organisations that have been in the water and climate change advocacy field for a long time."

If completed the Zambezi water project, first mooted almost a century ago by the then Rhodesian government, would bring relief to Bulawayo and the Matabeleland region where perennial water problems have been partly blamed for de-industrialisation.
