Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road width to be widened
2 hrs ago | Views

The Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road, currently eight metres wide, is set to be widened by an additional four metres, bringing it to 12 metres upon completion.
Government has awarded contracts to five reputable firms – Fossil Contracting, Masimba Contracting, Syvern Investments, Bitumen Resources, and Tensor Systems – to carry out work on the economically critical highway, which has long been in a deteriorating state.
Each contractor has been allocated a 50-kilometre stretch, with the first section starting at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo statue in Bulawayo's city centre. Construction crews confirmed that the road will be widened two metres on each side.
On-site observations revealed that in some sections, contractors have completely removed the existing tar, with workers explaining that the areas will first be levelled, followed by the laying of concrete, and finally resurfaced with tar.
The upgrade is expected to improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, and boost economic activities along this critical transport corridor.
