Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has officially married his fiancee Elizabeth Macheka, his office confirmed on Monday night.
"He is now married traditionally and the cultural ceremony to celebrate the arrival of a new daughter-in-law was done over the weekend in Buhera," said Tsvangirai's spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka.
He said Tsvangirai officially introduced Macheka as his wife to President Robert Mugabe at their Monday meeting in Harare yesterday.
"The Prime Minister introduced his wife to the President and Vice-President Joice Mujuru, as a matter of courtesy.
"As a national leader he could not introduce his wife at a national event, so he took advantage of today's (Monday) meeting to do so," said Tamborinyoka.
Since the death of his wife Susan three years ago, Tsvangirai has been linked to a number of women, notably Harare businesswoman Locardia Karimatsenga-Tembo, whom he reportedly impregnated.
In a high profile case, Tembo allegedly eloped to Tsvangirai's rural home in Buhera, but the premier ended the relationship.
However, with Macheka, Tsvangirai appears to have finally settled down as he took her to the United States last week, on a private visit accompanied by his children.
