Mnangagwa's Cabinet approves AIPPA repeal

The government has finally considered repealing the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA), with three separate bills on the cards as replacements.
This was revealed by the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services during a media briefing after today's cabinet sitting at Munhumutapa Offices, Harare.
"In today's meeting, only the principles for the Zimbabwe Media Bill were considered by Cabinet. The proposed amendments are in fulfilment of the requirements to align the country's laws to the Constitution. The repeal of AIPPA will give rise to the introduction of three separate Bills namely: Access to Information, Zimbabwe Media Commission, Protection of Personal Information or Data Protection bills," the Minister said.
Mutsvangwa also confirmed that cabinet was briefed on the recent trip by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to Ethiopia for the African Union (AU) Summit.
The Minister also hailed the decision by civil servants unions who have abandoned strikes and decided to engage the government on their working conditions.
Other resolutions adopted by the cabinet include the amendment of the Police Act to align it with the Zimbabwean constitution as well as the resolutions to keep the 2019 ZIMSEC examination fees for grade 7, Ordinary level and Advanced level unchanged in consideration of the plight of parents owing to the economic hardships the country is facing.
