During a recent full council meeting at Chinhoyi Municipality, councillors acknowledged that the council lacks the capacity to operate a pay toilet it currently leases.

CCC deputy mayor Chipo Mlotswa raised concerns about the shortage of toilets at Town House and suggested utilizing the toilet in the recreational park. However, after extensive discussions, councillors concluded that the council couldn't afford to manage the toilet efficiently due to the associated costs such as salaries and benefits for the attendant.

"It's financially burdensome for the council to run the park pay toilet. The expenses related to staff salaries and benefits could strain the council's resources," noted Zanu-PF councillor Ignatious Zvigadza.

The issue was referred to the housing committee for further consideration.

Meanwhile, resident Richmore Mangwiro from Hunyani high-density suburb criticized the councillors, labeling them as non-performers responsible for the council's failure to address the ongoing water crisis.

"These councillors have let us down, and it's no surprise that the council struggles to resolve the recurring water issues. What can we expect from councillors who openly admit their inability to manage a simple toilet? Perhaps some councillors benefit from the leasing arrangement," Mangwiro remarked.

A council employee, speaking anonymously due to fear of reprisal, highlighted excessive interference from councillors in the day-to-day operations of the council.

"Councillors should trust us to perform our duties and focus on demanding results. They seem overly involved in our affairs, to the point where one might assume they are employed here themselves, given their frequent presence at Town House," the worker expressed.

The discussion about the toilet arose due to public utilization of chamber toilets at Town House for various purposes, including paying rates.
