11 hrs ago | Views
The City of Bulawayo has issued a statement clarifying that Deputy Mayor Councillor Edwin Ndlovu and Chairperson of the Finance and Development Committee, Councillor Mpumelelo Moyo, are not suspended.
In a press release issued by the council, it was revealed that after seeking clarification from the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, the Ministry confirmed that the two councillors are not affected by the Minister's Directive issued on February 22, 2022. The directive, which involves suspensions, only applies to employees of the Council, not elected councillors.
The clarification comes in response to public confusion regarding the status of the two councillors. The Ministry's directive does not impact the councillors, allowing them to continue with their elected duties while they await the conclusion of ongoing legal proceedings.
The City of Bulawayo emphasized that the councillors remain fully engaged in their respective roles and responsibilities within the local government structure, despite the legal matters they are currently facing.
The statement assured residents that both Councillor Ndlovu and Councillor Moyo will continue serving the community and fulfilling their duties as councillors while the legal proceedings are ongoing.
This clarification aims to address any concerns or confusion regarding the councillors' suspension status and reassure the public that they are carrying on with their work in the best interest of the city's development.
