Workers at firebrand war veteran and Zanu-PF central committee member Blessed Runesu Geza's farm in Sanyati apprehended a 19-year-old suspected spy on Monday after catching him taking pictures of Geza's farmhouse.

The man, identified as Nigel Murwira, was handed over to the Sanyati police. Geza, a vocal critic of efforts to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa's term to 2030, was not present at the farm during the incident.

Farm manager Isaiah Lozane told NewsDayLive that Murwira was dropped off near the property by a car with South African registration plates, arousing suspicion among the workers.

"He started taking pictures of the main house, and that's when we confronted him," Lozane said. "At first, he claimed he was looking for work as a general labourer, but after questioning, he admitted he had been sent by unknown individuals to photograph the farm in exchange for US$200."

Murwira allegedly attempted to escape during the interrogation and injured himself while trying to climb the perimeter fence.

According to Lozane, Murwira said he was picked up near Patchway on the Kadoma-Sanyati Road by men in a Honda Fit. "The men were being directed by someone on the phone as they did not know the location of the farm," Lozane added. The Honda Fit sped off after realizing Murwira had been apprehended.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he had not yet received the report from Sanyati.

Blessed Geza has become a contentious figure within Zanu-PF due to his outspoken opposition to President Mnangagwa's proposed term extension. He leads a faction of war veterans resisting the plan, drawing the ire of Mnangagwa's allies, who are now calling for his expulsion from the party and possible arrest.

The incident has fueled speculation about growing tensions within Zanu-PF and the increasing polarization around the term-limit debate.
