Zimbabwe disability expo 2025 set to launch in Victoria Falls

The Zimbabwe Disability Expo 2025 is set to kick off tomorrow at Chinotimba Stadium in Victoria Falls, with President Emmerson Mnangagwa scheduled to officiate at the opening ceremony on Friday.

Spanning three days, the event promises to be a landmark moment in advancing disability inclusion across the country. It will celebrate talent, highlight achievements, and reaffirm the Second Republic's pledge that "no one and no place is left behind."

By Wednesday, preparations at Chinotimba Stadium were well underway, with service providers erecting tents, setting up exhibition spaces, and finalising logistical arrangements. The organising committee also convened for its final preparatory meeting to ensure a smooth and successful event.

This year's expo carries the theme: "Accelerating Disability Inclusion Now: A Collective Responsibility", emphasising the vital role of nationwide collaboration in integrating persons with disabilities into all aspects of society.

In an interview with Zimpapers, Mr. Sandars Munsaka, Chairperson of the National Disability Expo, expressed confidence that the event was ready to showcase the spirit of inclusion.

"This year's National Disability Expo will be held in Matabeleland North Province, Victoria Falls, at Chinotimba Stadium. We are well prepared to host this event. The theme highlights that the Second Republic has illuminated the path for all Zimbabweans to understand that persons with disabilities must not be excluded. They must be included in all spheres of life," he said.

Mr. Munsaka confirmed that the expo will run from Wednesday through Friday, with the stadium fully accessible to persons with disabilities from across Zimbabwe.

"Persons with disabilities will be showcasing their talents. We are inviting all companies, disability organisations, Government departments, and the private sector to come and demonstrate their commitment to inclusivity," he added.

He also highlighted the government's strides in championing the rights of persons with disabilities, noting the ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as a key milestone.

"President Mnangagwa signed the National Disability Policy and appointed persons with disabilities to key leadership positions, including a Commissioner with a visual impairment at the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, a High Court Judge with a disability, and a Special Advisor in the Office of the President and Cabinet. These appointments show that the Second Republic values and prioritises persons with disabilities," Mr. Munsaka said.

Mr. Macnon Chirinzepi, Director in the Office of the Special Advisor on National Disability Issues, assured Zimbabweans that all preparations were complete and encouraged a strong turnout.

"All is set for this year's expo, and we urge Zimbabweans from all walks of life to attend in large numbers to champion and raise awareness for persons with disabilities," he said.

The programme includes exhibitions, talent showcases, panel discussions, and networking opportunities, all aimed at fostering partnerships and raising awareness for a more inclusive Zimbabwe.

The highlight of the event will be President Mnangagwa's official opening on Friday, reinforcing the Government's commitment to disability inclusion.

The expo is expected to draw thousands of attendees, including government officials, disability rights advocates, representatives from the private sector, and international partners.
