Residents of Mazhambe in Guruve are expressing frustration over their relocation to make way for Eureka Gold Mine's expansion, claiming the move has disrupted their livelihoods and access to essential services.
Speaking to the press, villagers said they were moved far from the growth point and local schools, making daily life increasingly difficult. "The mine relocated us, but our challenge now is we are far from the growth point and our children are now walking very long distances to school," said Tedius Mazhambe, a local resident.
Others highlighted the impact on their farming activities. Sekai Padya, who previously relied on horticulture projects for income, said, "For years, I survived on horticulture projects, but when Eureka relocated us, my source of income was closed because I can no longer partake in my horticulture business."
Eureka Gold Mine's spokesperson, Tinagao Tinago, declined to comment directly on the matter, suggesting that the issue should be addressed by the district development coordinator or the local chief. Guruve District Development Coordinator, Innocent Mutsvenguri, also did not respond to queries sent by this publication.
The situation has sparked tensions between the affected communities and the mining company, with residents calling for urgent interventions to restore access to services and support for their disrupted livelihoods.
