ZANU-PF has stepped up its campaign for the Nkulumane Constituency by-election, intensifying door-to-door mobilisation ahead of Saturday's vote. The seat became vacant following the death of CCC legislator Desire Moyo in October.
Campaign teams are visiting households across the constituency to engage directly with voters. Zanu-PF candidate Freedom Murechu said the strategy allows the party to understand residents' concerns and implement immediate interventions, such as donating water tanks, large pots, and plates for communal use, particularly during funerals.
"The door-to-door campaign lets us interface with voters where they are, ensuring meaningful conversations without disrupting their daily routines," Murechu said. He added that nearly three-quarters of voters had already been reached, expressing confidence in securing victory.
Murechu explained that the party uses a participatory governance model, combining grassroots consultation with top-down policy implementation. Water shortages remain a key issue in Nkulumane, prompting the distribution of solarised community boreholes and water tanks.
Zanu-PF District Coordinating Committee Area 5 chairperson, Mnothisi Nsingo, emphasised that the party's presence on the ground is strengthening while the opposition struggles to mobilise. Senior party officials, including Bulawayo provincial chairperson Jabulani Sibanda and Central Committee members Charles Chiponda and Alderman David Ndlovu, attended a recent community engagement meeting to show support for the campaign.
The party highlighted its focus on understanding and addressing residents' immediate and long-term concerns, projecting confidence that Nkulumane will remain under Zanu-PF representation.
