A family in the Nyava area of Bindura is appealing for help in locating a murder suspect they accuse of killing their relative during an altercation on New Year's Day.
The family of Innocent Tinashe Mtepeya Hwata says it has been left traumatised following his death on January 1 at Nyava Growth Point, with Border Tatenda Muringayi named as the prime suspect.
Speaking to the media, the deceased's brother, Stanley Hwata, said the family has found no closure as the suspect has allegedly been on the run since the incident.
"We have no peace since my brother was stabbed and the suspect has been evading arrest from the day of the crime," Hwata said.
According to the family, the incident occurred after Innocent advised the suspect against driving recklessly at the busy growth point, where many people had gathered.
"My younger brother politely warned him not to skid the car in front of people, but he was attacked in response," Hwata said.
He said police were immediately notified and a report was issued to enable the family to seek medical assistance. However, Innocent succumbed to his injuries before reaching hospital.
Innocent was buried on Saturday at Nyava Village.
The family claims the suspect has since been sighted in several areas, including Shamva and Mutandiri in Bindura, before disappearing again. They allege he has been moving around with his brother, driving a Toyota Land Cruiser without number plates.
"Each time he is spotted, the police are informed, but he continues to evade capture," Hwata said.
The most recent information, according to the family, suggests that the suspect may be hiding in Mutandiri Village in the Manhenga area.
The case has been reported at Nyava Police Station, and the family is urging anyone with information that could lead to the suspect's arrest to come forward.
"We want justice for our brother," Hwata said. "No one should be allowed to go around killing others and escaping the law."
