The Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) has withheld 2025 Computer Science Advanced Level results for Bikita Fashu High School in Masvingo Province following suspected examination irregularities.
It has been confirmed that the results of three out of the six candidates who sat for the subject have been withheld pending investigations.
ZIMSEC spokesperson Ms Nicky Dhlamini confirmed the development, saying the school had been given 42 days to submit reports explaining the circumstances surrounding the suspected malpractice.
"If we withhold results it means that there is something unusual that we picked. The school has a 42-day window period to present its case and the matter must be finalised during that time," said Dhlamini.
The investigations come at a time when ZIMSEC has reported a significant reduction in examination leakages and cheating incidents that in recent years threatened the credibility and integrity of the examination body.
Efforts to get a comment from Bikita Fashu High School head, Mr Happison Dima, were unsuccessful as his mobile phone was unreachable. Attempts to contact the Computer Science teacher, Ms Amina Debora Dzoro, also failed as she did not respond to calls.
One of the affected students, Tadiwanashe Garandiya, confirmed that the results had been withheld and said he had since written a report as requested by ZIMSEC. However, he raised concerns that some students may have been coached on how to write the reports submitted to the examination body.
The six candidates who sat for the Computer Science A' Level examination at the school are Tinotenda Chinhondo, Godwill Matsvimbo, Langton Manyanda, Takudzwa Manunure, Tadiwanashe Garandiya and Rutendo Jamayo. Tinotenda Chinhondo reportedly obtained an A grade, Godwill Matsvimbo a B, and Langton Manyanda a C. The results of Takudzwa Manunure, Tadiwanashe Garandiya and Rutendo Jamayo were withheld.
Tadiwanashe's mother, Ms Beatrice Bhinzi, said she was not informed about the reasons behind her son's withheld results.
"No one communicated to me about the withheld results. What I know is that the children were phoned by their teacher to come and write reports," she said.
ZIMSEC said it would make a final determination once investigations are concluded within the stipulated 42-day period.
