Motormouth Malloti Rose has refused to apologise for insulting Zimbabwean nurse aide workers in the UK, instead announcing her withdrawal from the upcoming Y2K SAMA Festival scheduled for April.

In a statement directed at festival organisers, Malloti said she was submitting her "official withdrawal application with immediate effect" and would not be refunding the US$1,650 security deposit she had received.

"The SAMA Festival had suggested that I must apologise to nurse aides in the UK. I do not see any problem with what I said… If I must ask forgiveness to go on with the show, consider this as my official withdrawal application with immediate effect," she wrote.

Her husband, fellow Zimdancehall artist Hulengende, also withdrew from the event in solidarity. He said he had advised his wife not to apologise, and would refund the deposit if required.

"When I asked her to be my girlfriend, I knew everything about her past," Hulengende said. "I will gladly refund the deposit. Attending the UK event would mean going against everything I stand for. Handidi," he added.

The controversy erupted after Malloti used a rant aimed at Ireland-based socialite Ketina Masomera to claim that most Zimbabweans attending music shows in the UK are unorganised nurse aide workers with limited financial means. She reportedly referred to them as "Ma Zimbabweans echinherera" (Zimbabweans without money).

Activists, including Ketina Masomera, have expressed outrage, threatening to seek Malloti's deportation on arrival to the UK due to her past criminal links and alleged fugitive status in South Africa.

The withdrawal leaves the April 4 performance slot at the festival open, organisers confirmed, as they assess replacements for the controversial act.
