A 19-year-old Njube man has been sentenced to community service after being convicted of having sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old schoolgirl, in a case heard at the Western Commonage Magistrates' Court in Bulawayo.
Sylvester Moyo (19) appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube facing a charge of having sexual intercourse with a minor. Under Zimbabwean law, a person under the age of 18 is legally incapable of consenting to sexual activity.
The court heard that Moyo met the 15-year-old girl at Luveve Shopping Centre on 28 December 2025. The two exchanged contact details and began communicating shortly afterwards.
Prosecutor Cathrine Kuzu told the court that on 11 January 2026, Moyo invited the girl to his place, where they engaged in sexual intercourse on two occasions. The situation came to light after the teenager failed to return home, prompting her parents to report the matter to the police.
Moyo was subsequently arrested and charged.
In passing sentence, Magistrate Ncube initially imposed a 12-month prison term. However, four months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour. The remaining eight months were suspended on condition that Moyo completes 280 hours of community service.
He has been ordered to carry out the unpaid work at Njube Police Station under supervision.
