Delegates for the 2026 Southern African Development Community (SADC) Sustainable Energy Week (SEW) have begun arriving in Victoria Falls ahead of the official opening of the regional energy indaba on Monday.
The first high-level delegation to arrive was from the Eswatini. His Royal Highness Prince Lonkhokhela, Eswatini's Minister of Natural Resources and Energy, touched down on Sunday afternoon accompanied by his Permanent Secretary.
Incoming delegations are being received by Zimbabwe's Minister of Energy and Power Development, July Moyo, who is leading the host country's preparations for what is expected to be a landmark regional gathering.
The 2026 SADC Sustainable Energy Week, running from 23 to 27 February, is the bloc's premier annual platform for advancing investment, cooperation, and knowledge exchange in sustainable energy across Southern Africa.
Endorsed by SADC Energy Ministers, this year's theme is: Driving Regional Economic Growth through Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency.
The event will bring together stakeholders from across the energy ecosystem, including government ministries, policymakers, regulators, private sector companies, development partners, and financiers.
Key discussions are expected to focus on strengthening regional transmission infrastructure, harmonising energy efficiency policies, expanding renewable energy deployment, and integrating clean cooking solutions into national energy strategies.
This year's edition will feature several first-time highlights, including presentations on National Energy Compacts and an awards ceremony recognising outstanding regional sustainable energy projects.
The event is being hosted by Zimbabwe's Ministry of Energy and Power Development, the Southern African Development Community Secretariat, and the SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE).
Organisers say the gathering is expected to strengthen regional collaboration as Southern African countries accelerate efforts to achieve energy security while transitioning to cleaner and more sustainable energy systems.
